About Grassroots Law Project

At Grassroots Law Project – founded by civil rights activist and journalist Shaun King and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt – we believe in true liberation from the oppressive systems of policing, incarceration, and racial injustice. We combine the best of grassroots organizing with legal expertise to give people across the country the tools to make real change.

We advance policies that have the potential to drastically reduce the number of people harmed by police and prisons, advocate on behalf of families impacted by police violence and mass incarceration, and work with our partner PAC to elect leaders who are deeply committed to dismantling systems of oppression.

We are an ambitious, fast-paced, dynamic organization that puts the impact of the work first. We have taken on cases and campaigns that others deemed “impossible” – and then won.

About the role

We’re looking for a highly-motivated, flexible, savvy Social Media Manager to craft and implement social media strategies and content that drives meaningful action from our growing audiences of millions of people across the nation.

The ideal candidate is a campaigner and organizer at heart with a proven ability to leverage social media tactics and tools to mobilize, inspire, inform, organize, and engage people in social justice or political advocacy campaigns. They will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple projects at once – quickly conceiving of compelling posts and writing excellent copy during timely moments, and then going deeper to illustrate broader campaign narratives and stories.

They should have a demonstrated history of being directly engaged in the political process and be an active follower of what’s going on in justice, organizing, and electoral spaces.

They are deeply committed to transforming policing, incarceration, and racial justice in America – and have the talent and heart to deliver.

The Social Media Manager, who is remote and reports to the Digital Director, is responsible for the following:

What you’ll do:

  • Drive social media concepts and content that both meets major moments as well as illustrates broader campaign narratives – across Grassroots Law Project and our partner PAC

  • Coordinate with team members across the organization to craft and implement social media strategies to advance organizing and campaign goals – for local, state-level, and national projects

  • Follow and curate timely content from volunteers and leaders across the issue space to amplify voices of the broader movement, advance the conversation on justice-related issues, and highlight the human stories at the heart of the work

  • Develop social media tools and resources for volunteers and organizers across the country

  • Analyze performance and trends to optimize and innovate approaches

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated success leveraging the power of people through social media platforms to make change

  • Experience in grassroots organizing and political campaigning

  • A knack for quickly and clearly breaking down complex policy news and subject matter

  • Excellent writing ability and a keen eye for compelling visual content

  • Knowledge of and passion for justice-related issues and deep commitment to racial equity

  • Ability to balance multiple, fast-moving projects and priorities

  • In-depth knowledge of key tools and metrics

Salary range is $65,000 – $75,000 dependent on skill and experience, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, 3 weeks PTO, 10 holidays, 3 months paid parental leave.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
